Japan sees India as promising investment destination

A new survey has found that Japanese companies see India as the most favorable overseas investment destination for the second straight year. The poll also showed that China had dropped a notch to third place since the last survey.
The survey was conducted by the government-owned Japan Bank for International Cooperation.
It asked the firms which countries and regions they see as promising investment destinations in the next three years. 48.6 percent opted for India.
JBIC conducts the survey of Japanese manufacturers operating overseas every year. This year, it received replies from 534 companies.
Kawakami Nao, Director General at JBIC Strategic Research Department says ” India is strongly promoting infrastructure development. And its population is set to continue growing. There is still room for domestic demand to expand. Japanese companies are very hopeful about those things.”
Vietnam came second at 30.1 percent. The figure for China was 28.4 percent. That’s the lowest since the survey began in 1992.
Many companies expressed concern about economic security amid growing friction between Beijing and Washington. They also cite the country’s slowing economy.

JBIC戦略調査部の川上奈緒部長は「インドはインフラ整備を強力に推進しており、今後も人口は増加していく。内需拡大の余地はまだまだある。日本企業は大いに期待している」と語る。
