Mexico has announced that it is cutting diplomatic ties with Ecuador following the arrest of former Ecuadorian vice president at its embassy in a police raid.
メキシコは、エクアドル大使館で元副大統領が警察の襲撃により逮捕されたことを受け、エクアドルとの外交関係を断絶すると発表した。
The Ecuadorian government said that police entered the Mexican embassy in capital Quito and took Jorge Glas into custody on Friday.
エクアドル政府によると、警察が首都キトのメキシコ大使館に入り、金曜日にホルヘ・グラス氏の身柄を拘束したという。

Glas served four years as Ecuador’s vice president with leftist President Rafael Correa from 2013 to 2017.
グラス氏は2013年から2017年までの4年間、左派のラファエル・コレア大統領と共にエクアドルの副大統領を務めた。

He was accused of corruption and other charges and imprisoned until he was provisionally released.
彼は汚職などで告発され、仮釈放されるまで投獄されていた。

Glas has resided in the Mexican embassy since December last year, seeking political asylum.
グラス氏は昨年12月から政治亡命を求めてメキシコ大使館に滞在している。

The police raid took place shortly after Mexico granted him asylum on Friday.

The Mexican foreign ministry said that it is breaking diplomatic relations with Ecuador “in view of the flagrant and serious violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, in particular of the principle of inviolability of diplomatic premises.”

It says it will file a complaint with the International Court of Justice.
