募金活動で人々から集めたお金が、１か所にまとめて置いてある情景を想像してみてください。さらに募金を集めると、そのお金は積み上がって山になります。お金をたくさん集めて積み上げると、そのお金の山の頂上の位置を「上げる、高くする」ことになります。この山の高さを「上げる」ことがつまり、資金を「集める」ということです。
(Imagine all the money collected from people in a fundraising event all sitting in one place. As you collect more donations, the money piles up into a pile. When you collect and pile up a lot of money, you “raise” the top of the money pile. Raising the height of this mountain means “gathering” funds.)

Right. And the word, raise often implies a purpose beyond just making somthing higher. One good example is raising your hands.

Yes. I love it. I took my kids there a few years ago. And I still remember the looks of wonder, and joy on their faces as they explored all the exhibitions on Dinosaurs, cutting-edge technology and everything in between. For us one day there wasn’t enough.
