♪Topic 23: How did you change this school year? Day 4.
Before we talk about this week’s topic, let’s have a chat with Minnie. Minnie, before, you told us that you’re interested in archaeology and Japanese history.
Yes. That’s true. I love archaeology and Japanese history.
What other things are you interested in?
Well, when I’m not reading books about archaeology or Japanese history, then I’m really into figure skating.
And actually…
Oh, figure skating.
Yeah. Actually, I’m working as a writer, and I’m writing about figure skating for German- and English-speaking magazines.
Wow.
Who is your favorite Japanese figure skater?
Oh. There are so many good skaters. But when it comes to the men’s category, I really like Kagiyama Yuma.
Yes. He has a very nice personality and great skating skills. And when it comes to (the) ladies’ category, I like Sakamoto Kaori. She has a great sense of humor.
And what made you interested in figure skating?
It all happened a long time ago. I was watching a skating competition with my parents, and I really loved the female figure skaters because they had beautiful costumes and dresses. And that’s when I fell in love with figure skating.
How old were you then?
I think I was four or five years old. So, I was very small, yes.
I see.
So, this is a lifelong love.
Yes, exactly.
Do you often go to figure skating competitions?
Yes. Because I’m working as a writer. So, I go to all Japanese figure skating competitions – regional competitions -,but international competitions as well.
Research.
Yes. Kind of research and analyzing (→ analysis).
Wow. Interesting.
Do you like to skate?
I like to skate, but I’m not good at it. So, I look like a zombie on the ice.
What other interests do you have?
I really love playing video games.
Oh. Me too.
Yes. Especially games that have beautiful scenery, beautiful kind of landscape, and a very interesting story. And I like reading books as well.
Oh, nice.
Me too.
Let’s talk about books later. Yes, please.
