The war in Ukraine prompted many sports bodies to ban athletes from Russia and its ally Belarus. On Friday, the International Olympic Committee said some of them will be allowed to take part in next year’s Paris Games as “neutrals.”
ウクライナ戦争を受け、多くのスポーツ団体がロシアとその同盟国ベラルーシからの選手の入国を禁止した。国際オリンピック委員会は金曜日、一部の選手が「中立国」として来年のパリ大会に参加することを許可されると発表した。

The IOC said the decision applies to Russian and Belarusian athletes who do not support the war. It added that only a limited number will qualify.
IOCは、この決定は戦争を支持しないロシアとベラルーシの選手にも適用されると述べた。限られた数だけが資格を得ることができると付け加えた。

The athletes will be prohibited from displaying flags and emblems, and their national anthems will not be played. The IOC has so far allowed eight athletes from Russia and three from Belarus.
選手は国旗や徽章の掲揚を禁止され、国歌の斉唱も行われない。 IOCはこれまでにロシアから8名、ベラルーシから3名の選手を出場許可している。

Russian sports minister Oleg Matytsin described the plan as “discriminatory” and said it goes “against the principles of sports.”
ロシアのオレグ・マティツィンスポーツ大臣は、この計画は「差別的」であり、「スポーツの原則に反する」と述べた。

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba called the decision “shameful” and warned that Russia may use the opportunity to “weaponize” the Olympics. He urged all of Ukraine’s partners to strongly condemn the move.
ウクライナのドミトロ・クレバ外務大臣は、決定を「恥ずべき」と呼び、ロシアがオリンピックを「武器化」する機会を利用する可能性があると警告した。同氏はウクライナのすべてのパートナーに対し、この動きを強く非難するよう求めた。

Members of the United Nations General Assembly want to see a pause in all fighting during the Games. Last month, they adopted a resolution urging members to observe a so-called “Olympic truce.”
国連総会のメンバーらは、大会期間中のすべての戦闘が一時停止されることを望んでいる。先月、加盟国に対し、いわゆる「オリンピック休戦」を遵守するよう求める決議を採択した。
