Japanese industrial giant Toshiba will be delisted from the stock exchanges in Tokyo and Nagoya next month, following the approval of shareholders. The aim is for the company to rebuild its finances and turn its business around.
日本の産業大手東芝は株主の承認を経て、来月東京と名古屋の証券取引所から上場廃止となる。同社が財務を立て直し、事業を立て直すことが目的だ。

Toshiba held an ad hoc shareholders meeting on Wednesday to address the issue.
東芝はこの問題に対処するため、水曜日に臨時株主総会を開催した。

An investment fund, Japan Industrial Partners, bought more than 78 percent of Toshiba shares in a takeover in September. Shareholders have approved the purchase of the remaining portion to squeeze out overseas activists. Toshiba is now set to go private on December 20.
投資ファンドの日本産業パートナーズは９月の買収で東芝株の７８％以上を取得した。株主は海外の活動家を締め出すために残りの部分を買い取ることを承認した。東芝は12月20日に非公開化される予定だ。

One shareholder said Toshiba’s technology leads the world, and she doesn’t expect that to change even with new management and so hopes it can continue that successful legacy.
ある株主は、東芝の技術は世界をリードしており、経営陣が変わってもそれが変わるとは予想しておらず、その成功した遺産を継続できることを期待していると述べた。

“Delisting doesn’t solve any problems,” another shareholder said. “Toshiba needs to reexamine what went wrong in recent years, especially with its finances,”
別の株主は「上場廃止は何の問題も解決しない」と語った。「東芝は近年、特に財務面で何がうまくいかなかったのかを再検討する必要がある。」

Toshiba has been mired in problems since accounting irregularities came to light in 2015.
東芝は2015年に不正会計が発覚して以来、問題に陥っている。

The company faces the challenge of restructuring its finances and pursuing growth. It has to do this while shouldering costs of around 2 trillion yen, or more than 13 billion dollars, related to the buyout.
同社は財務を再構築し、成長を追求するという課題に直面している。買収に関連して約2兆円、つまり130億ドル以上の費用を負担しながらこれを行わなければならない。
