Protesters and police clash on U.S. campuses
アメリカではイスラエル軍によるガザ地区の戦闘をめぐって、コロンビア大学、イエール大学、テキサス大学など各地で学生による抗議デモが続いています。政治の介入も強まる中、表現の自由を尊重すべき大学のあり方や、人種や政治信条が異なる人たちの間の分断など、さまざまな課題が浮かび上がっています。
(In the United States, student protests have continued at Columbia University, Yale University, the University of Texas, and various other universities over the fighting in the Gaza Strip by the Israeli military. As political intervention intensifies, various issues are emerging, including how universities should respect freedom of expression and the division between people of different races and political beliefs.)
protester、動詞 protest「抗議する」＋-er「人」から成る単語で、「抗議（のデモ活動）をする人、抗議活動の参加者」protestorとつづる場合も。
counter-「反対の、逆の」という意味の単語を作り、counter-protester、またはcounterprotester「対抗デモに参加する人」counterculture「反体制文化」や counterattack「反撃（する）」という言葉もあり、これらは通例ハイフンなしで１語としてつづります。

pro-「～賛成の、～支持の」で、pro-Palestinianは「パレスチナ支持の、親パレスチナの」
なお、「～反対の、～不支持の」なら anti-。
また、pro には「良い点、メリット、賛成理由」という意味もあり、pros and cons は「賛否（両論）、是非」
動詞 camp「野営する、キャンプする」
on the grounds of -,「～の敷地で」「～の理由で、～を根拠に」
例えば、Due to strong winds, the bridge was closed on the grounds of safety.
「強風のため、安全上の理由でその橋は閉鎖された」
heyとtheirは、コロンビア大学構内で抗議行動する人々を指しています。

ニューヨークのコロンビア大学では、キャンパス内に設置したテントの撤去に応じないなどとして、１００人以上が一時、警察に拘束されました。学生側は報道陣に対し、大学がイスラエルに関係する企業から支援を受けないようにすることなどを退去の条件に挙げ、「ここから去る計画はない」と譲歩しない考えを強調しました。

professor「教授（職）」ですが、一般的に「大学の先生」を意味することもあります。
動詞 cancel「取り消す、取りやめる、解約する、キャンセルする」
in-person -, 「対面の～」で、in-person classは「対面授業」face-to-faceもin-personと同様に使うことができます。
insteadは「代わりに、そうしないで」
ここでの online「オンラインで、ネットワークに接続されて」という副詞
prioritize「優先する、優先させる」名詞形は、priority「優先すること、優先権」
抗議デモには学生以外も加わり、ユダヤ系の学生に対する差別や偏見もみられるとして、大学側は部外者の立ち入りを制限し、授業や試験の一部をオンラインに切り替えるなどの措置をとりました。
