“The Father, the Son, and the Donkey” is a popular fable that teaches the lesson of the impossibility of pleasing everyone and the importance of making decisions based on one’s own judgment rather than trying to satisfy everyone’s opinions.
“父と息子とロバ “は、万人を喜ばせることは不可能であり、万人の意見を満足させようとするのではなく、自分の判断で決断することの大切さを教えてくれる人気の寓話である。

In the story, a father and his son set out on a journey with their donkey. As they travel, they encounter various people along the way who offer their opinions on how they should ride the donkey. The father and son initially try to accommodate everyone’s advice by alternating between riding the donkey, walking alongside it, and carrying the donkey on a pole. However, no matter what they do, they face criticism from others.

In the end, the father and son become so preoccupied with trying to please everyone that they end up tying the donkey’s legs and carrying it on their shoulders. As they cross a bridge, the donkey becomes frightened, kicks free, and falls into the river, leaving the father and son with nothing.
この物語では、ある親子がロバを連れて旅に出る。旅の途中、ロバをどう乗せるかについて意見を述べる様々な人々に出会う。ロバに乗ったり、ロバと一緒に歩いたり、ロバを棒に乗せて運んだり。しかし、何をやっても周りからの批判にさらされる。
結局、親子はみんなを喜ばせようとするあまり、ロバの足を縛って肩に担ぐことになる。橋を渡るとき、ロバは怖くなって自由になり、川に落ちてしまい、父と息子は何も残らなかった。

The moral of the story is that it is impossible to please everyone, and trying to do so can lead to disastrous consequences. Instead of letting the opinions of others dictate their actions, individuals should trust their own judgment and make decisions based on what they believe is right. It’s a lesson about the importance of self-confidence, independence, and the acceptance that not everyone will agree with our choices.
