インドでしてはいけないこと (things you shouldn’t do in India)
SNSでは「〜 (国)でしてはいけないこと」という動画が人気で、僕も日本に関するこの手の動画をいくつか見たことがあります。 (Videos called “things you shouldn’t do in ~ (country)” are popular on social media, and I’ve seen several videos like this about Japan.)
インドでしてはいけないこととしてまず挙げられるのは、「食事の際に左手を使ってはいけない」あるいは「左手で物を渡してはいけない」。なぜかというと、左手は「不浄の手」だと考えられているからです。
(The first thing you should not do in India is “don’t use your left hand when eating” or “don’t pass things with your left hand.” This is because the left hand is considered an “unclean” hand.)
また、「右手で靴を持ってはいけない」という決まりもあります。靴などの汚れた物には左手を使うからです。そしてスマートフォンで気軽に写真を撮影できるこの時代、どこでも気をつけなくてはいけないのが、「許可なく街の人の写真を撮ってはいけない」。写真を撮るときは必ず相手に了承を得てから。断られたら素直に諦めましょう。
