Former US ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley has won the Republican primary in Washington, D.C. The victory in the US capital is her first over former President Donald Trump in the GOP nomination race for the US presidential election in November.
元米国国連大使のニッキー・ヘイリー氏がワシントンD.C.での共和党予備選で勝利した。米国の首都での勝利は、11月の米国大統領選挙の共和党候補指名争いでドナルド・トランプ前大統領を破る初の勝利となった。

Voting took place over three days from Friday, with ballot counting held on Sunday.
投票は金曜日から３日間にわたって行われ、日曜日に開票が行われた。

With all votes counted, Haley garnered 62.8 percent, against 33.3 percent for Trump.

Trump has been the clear frontrunner in the Republican contest that started in January. Before Washington, he had clinched victories in all the primaries and caucuses held in seven states and the US Virgin Islands.

Haley’s victory on Sunday will not likely affect Trump’s dominance of the Republican race. The former president has an overwhelming lead over Haley in the number of delegates won so far.
