Thai volunteer aims to bring tourists to rural Japan city

Japan has long been providing assistance in Southeast Asia. And now the boot’s on the other foot: The Thai government has sent a volunteer to help a city in central Japan lure tourists from overseas.
On Monday, Unchaleeporn Prisawong was appointed a tourism coordinator of Hokuto in Yamanashi Prefecture.
The Japanese speaker will work in the city for the next 12 months. As well as sharing local attractions on social media, she’ll attend events in Thailand touting Hokuto’s countryside charms.
She says the appeal of Hokuto is its beautiful nature, adding she is looking forward to engaging with lots of people through her life there.
The volunteer program is run by the Thailand International Cooperation Agency, a department under the country’s foreign ministry. It’s modeled after a similar one operated by Japan’s JICA.
Ureerat Chareontoh, who heads TICA, says she’s glad her country can help Japan in something it’s good at — promoting rural tourism.
The Thai government has already dispatched volunteers to Japan for short-term visits in the past. This is the first yearlong mission.

月曜日、アンチャリーポーン・プリサウォンさんは山梨県北杜市の観光コーディネーターに任命された。
日本語話者は今後12か月間市内で働く予定ソーシャルメディアで地元の魅力を共有するほか、北杜市の田舎の魅力を宣伝するタイのイベントにも参加する予定だ。
北杜市の魅力は美しい自然だと言い、北杜市での生活を通じて多くの人々と関わることを楽しみにしていると付け加えた。
このボランティアプログラムは、タイ外務省の管轄部門であるタイ国際協力庁によって運営されています。これは日本のJICAが運営する同様のものをモデルにしている。
TICAの責任者であるウリーラット・チャリオントー氏は、田舎観光の促進という日本の得意分野で日本が支援できることをうれしく思うと語る。
