♪ Topic 18: Is there a part of your personality that you want to change? Day 4.
Before we talk about this week’s topic, let’s have a chat with Mandy. Mandy, you’re from Spain. Do many people in Spain speak English?
Actually, yes. We start learning English around six years old.
For you, what is the best way to learn or study a foreign language? Your English is very good.
So, you…
Thank you.
you must have some good advice.
Well, my advice would be to make many, many friends from different countries.
Ah!
When I was living in Spain, my English wasn’t that good. But I made a lot of different friends from America and England and Ireland. And step by step, I got confidence. And I feel like my English is getting better.
What about Japanese? When did you start learning Japanese?
Oh. I started 10 years ago.
Oh.
Wow.
Wow.
Yeah.
My friends and I – we wanted to learn Japanese because we wanted to understand Japanese from anime.
Oh.
Yes.
And also from Japanese music. We wanted to understand Japanese lyrics. So, that’s why I started to learn Japanese.
That makes sense.
Lyrics. The words in… that the singers sing. Wow.
What Japanese word or Japanese sentence did you remember first?
That would be… mmm, “doki-doki” or “waku-waku.”
Oh, the most useful of all is “giri-giri.”
Yes. It’s so useful!
Oh, we can use it every day for something like the train. Every day, we use “giri-giri” for something.
You got to the studio giri-giri sefu.
Giri-giri sefu.

-Guest’s Thoughts
This week, we’re talking about our personalities. Mandy, please tell us, is there a part of your personality that you want to change?
Well, I am very impatient. I used to get upset easily when something didn’t go as I planned.
Really? Can you give us an example?
