♪ Topic 17: Should you study outside of school? Day 4.
All right, then. Let’s introduce our guest for December and January. Joining us in the studio is…
Hi, I’m Mandy Asensi. Please call me Mandy.
Hi, Mandy. Welcome!
Hey!
It’s great to have you here.
Welcome to the show.
Yeah!
Thank you.
So, Mandy, could you please tell us a little about yourself?
Of course. I am originally from Spain.
Wow!
When you think about Spain, you think about flamenco and football and, of course, very delicious food.
Nice.
“Football.” That’s also called “soccer” in parts of the world.
Yes. I like soccer.
Me too! I love soccer.
Wow! Nice.
So, tell us more about Spain. What do you think is special and interesting about where you’re from?
Oh, well. I come from Alicante. It’s a very small town, but it has beautiful sea, two castles, and special seafood paella.
I’m excited about the castles. That’s amazing.
Yeah. Wow. Where in Spain is your hometown?
Alicante is in Valencian Community. And a lot of people think that Valencian Community – it’s only
Valencia because of the oranges.
Oranges.
Valencia oranges.
That’s right. Alicante is smaller, but it has a special feeling. It’s so relaxing, and it’s so close to the sea that
you just want to spend your summer vacations forever there.
Mandy, when did you come to Japan?
Oh. I came five years ago.
Mmm, five years.
Yes. And it’s because I love Japanese music.
Oh, Japanese music. Me too.
Oh!
What style of music do you like?
Mmm. I love 80s and 90s songs. I love city pop, and I love artists like Aikawa Nanase or Utada Hikaru.
Nice.

-Guest’s Thoughts
This week, we’re talking about studying. Mandy, please tell us, should you study outside of school?
I think it’s very important to study outside of school, even just a little bit. Sometimes in classes, there are too many things to learn at once. For me, checking my class notes every day was the best way to study.
Ah. How did checking your class notes help you?
Well, by checking my notes even for a short time, I could understand important things that I didn’t catch during the class. But let’s not forget to rest, too. We need to rest our brains to learn well.
Oh, yes.
