Eikaiwa Time Trial

Let’s get started with Day 10 for the month of June.

And, here is our conversation partner around the Pacific.
Hi, everyone. I’m Catherine Leland. Just try to complete the conversation with me today in your own words.
Okay.
Here we go.

And do you remember this month’s theme, Communicate with kids in Fiji.
So, let’s check out today’s scene. Imagine this.
Today you go to a cultural village in Fiji by bus.
But inside the bus, there are children. And you are helping them to get to the cultural village.

You’re a Chaperone for the Kids’ Trip

(You are assisting a teacher who is leading a field trip for children.
During the shuttle bus ride, you talk to a child who looks ill.
Tell them what to do and encourage them to arrive safely!)

One child needs your help. She got carsick.

Did you imagine the situation?
So try to have an eight-turn conversation as you help a child on a bus.
Ready, start.

-Try 8 turns
1. Excuse me.

Okay, time’s up.
How many times did you reply?
How do you say 引率する人 in English?
The answer is chaperone .
Have you ever been a chaperone?
I don’t think so. What about you?
Actually, when I came to Japan, I worked in a small school in Gifu prefecture. And I was not an official chaperone, but I went on a school trip once. It’s so fun to work and communicate with kids.
Unless they get carsick.
Ha, ha, ha.
Let’s check out my sample replies.
Steve will show you one way to reply. Listen carefully.
